Energy-Based Psychotherapy

Healing on a Whole Different Level

Most talk therapy addresses only thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The more powerful therapies (such as EMDR) involve the body as well.

But energy psychology methods address the subtle energy system which underlies and informs all those other levels — it’s the blueprint, the code, for your whole being.

That means addressing your problem at the energy level is more efficient and lasting.

“Efficient flow of energy is essential to wellness; disease is the result of any interference with this flow.”

— Ilya Prigogine, Winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry

When blockages in energy flow occur, we have symptoms which, if left untreated, eventually develop into illness (physical, mental/emotional, or both). The techniques I use just support the energy system in doing its job, much like penicillin does for the immune system when it is fighting an infection. They are gentle, rapid, and flexible — repressed memories don’t always even need to be made conscious to be healed when using EBP.

Use of EBP is directed by your body (vs. my ideas or yours). Your body is, in a sense, the spokesperson for your unconscious mind, so your body sensations show us where to go. It also lets us know when there’s been a shift.

“In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.”

—Albert Szent-Gyogyi, Nobel Laureate in Medicine

How does it work?

— in a word, we don’t really know —

As is the case with most innovations in medical treatment, clinical observation of their efficacy is always ahead of the empirical evidence supporting it (it’s what inspires the research to begin with!). Case in point, aspirin and penicillin were long in use before we understood how they worked. Nonetheless, there is a growing body of research that supports that they work.  Click here for more info on them in general, as well as the research studies about them. https://www.energypsych.org

FAQ’s about Energy-Based Psychotherapy

  • EBP integrates energy medicine principles into a psychotherapy context. It uses the growing body of innovative energy psychology techniques that were designed to be employed by licensed mental health providers and intermingles them with regular talk therapy as needed.

  • We don’t have to use them! Or, I’m happy to answer all of your questions about them and offer you resources that will help you feel comfortable before trying them. And if we do, you can always stop for any reason.

  • EBP treatments are quite collaborative and involve a lot of interaction between us. You can ask questions at any time. They might put you into a deeply relaxed state (which is a good thing if we are treating traumatic memories!), but clients are awake and conscious during them and can recall later what happened in a session.

  • I choose targeted, tailored interventions designed to zero in on the root of the issue from the variety of EBP modalities I’ve trained in. Through intuitive listening about your life and the problem, I identify key negative memories that are formative in setting up core negative beliefs that are often quite unconscious to you. These beliefs tend to drive the compulsive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that you feel unable to change. All EBP treatments, regardless of modality, tend to involve combining the recollection of painful memories and beliefs with body awareness, the power of intention and the spoken word, breath, visualization, affirmations, and stimulation of the energy system in various ways. (The client does this by tapping, holding, rubbing various parts of the body as directed by me.) This helps calm and balance the nervous system in reference to those underlying painful memories, so you can arrive at a more adaptive interpretation of them. When the meaning you make of them shifts, so do the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that were driven by them. Somehow, the old energetic patterns and blockages which have been keeping you stuck are released. You are then free to choose differently in ways you formerly felt unable to change.* Read Disclaimer here
