Trauma & Anxiety

I have extensive experience treating all forms of anxiety and the effects of trauma, including:

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Panic Attacks
  • Phobias
  • Nightmares and Anxiety-Induced Insomnia
  • Generalized Anxiety (feeling keyed up, on edge, irritable, worried, tense)
  • Flashbacks and Hypervigilance
  • Dissociative Disorders
  • Sexual problems because of childhood sexual abuse
  • Traumatic memories of childhood abuse, first-responder work, military combat, sexual assault, natural disasters, and random accidents

When it comes to treating trauma, the latest research has shown that the body has to be involved. Talk therapy is not enough. Traumatic memories are stored in the nervous system differently than run-of-the-mill memories so they need to be reprocessed in a safe environment with a compassionate witness using methods that engage the body. To do this, I use Eye-Movement-Desensitization-Reprocessing (EMDR), an Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed approach, and a variety of energy-based modalities to calm the nervous system. I have found that this combination is extremely powerful for putting traumatic memories to rest. These tools help to consolidate memories that have been dissociated and shift the meaning you make of the painful experiences. What happened does not change, but your posture towards them does, which makes all the difference. Thanks to these innovations, the symptoms of trauma are very treatable!
